Sunday, Sunday …

Monday, January 14th, 2013

Oh, Sunday, why do you have to be so short?

Got a nice little ride in today, maybe 2 hours. I got a little bit of a late start and had a lot to do this afternoon, so I just rode around the outskirts of Davis. I’m doing well with the pedals, just having a little trouble clipping back in now and then, but I’m getting it.

It was a lovely day, a little chilly and breezy, but it sure felt nice to be outside and on my pretty Colnago! The Napa Valley Tour de Cure is now less than 5 months away. I really need to get serious about some training.

Just a Quick Ride

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

I got a lot done today and rewarded myself with a quick ride. I just jumped on my bike and started riding. No pack, no camera, just a lip balm & snack in my Gold’s Gym Tour de Cure Jersey, 2 water bottles, and some residual caffeine energy from my espresso. My average mph was about +1 mph from my last ride.

Oh, and I blasted past a “real” cyclist on the one little incline on my ride. Wooooooooo!

Looking forward to a long ride tomorrow!

I think today is …

Saturday, October 6th, 2012

… a red jersey day! I’ll wear red to show my support and to honor my brother. He is why I ride the Tour de Cure.

How  many red riders are out today training for their 2013 Tour de Cure ride?

Heart Rate Monitor, too!

Today's ride

And not only that … my first ride with a heart rate  monitor.

Next thing  you know, I’ll do the pedals. Everyone (yes, virtually every cyclist I know!) is telling me I’ll never be a real cyclist until I change to the “real” pedals. OK, OK, I’m getting there!

Training Ride Today

The 2013 Tour de Cure will be here before we know it!
Logging a few hours of working on cadence and form today. Beautiful day for it!

2013 Tour de Cure … Let the Training Rides Begin!

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

I officially started training for my 2013 Tour de Cure with a 78-mile ride today … Davis to Winters to Vacaville to Dixon and back to Davis.

We stopped to have lunch at the Nugget Market in Vacaville. If you’re looking for something super refreshing, healthy, and easy on the stomach, try fresh squeezed pineapple juice. It’s loaded with an enzyme called bromelain. Just make sure it’s fresh squeezed and not canned or from concentrate. You can order it at the juice bar. A large (I think 16 ounces) was $5.00 and worth every penny of it.

Here’s some information on the health benefits of bromelain from the University of Maryland Medical Center website:   http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/bromelain-000289.htm

A quick rest stop in Winters.

Oh, dear ... one of these days I will get this self-photo thing down.

The Weekend Before the Rains Come Back …

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Saturday … sleep in … then a quickie 20-mile ride … off to the Farmers’ Market … then the CoOp for BBQ and some bulk rice shopping (restocking on Forbidden Rice – hoping they still have this in bulk!) … I foresee some nice coffee in my afternoon … then a walk … then dinner … maybe a movie …

Sunday … taking on Cardiac Hill. Aaaaaaaaaaaaah! A little scared. I haven’t done this hill in a LONG time. Hey, a girl’s gotta’ do what a girl’s gotta’ do and what THIS girl needs to do is to get ready for the upcoming Tour de Cure century (yep, that would be 100 miles) coming up in LESS than 2 months!!!

I think this sounds like a pretty awesome weekend.

I am so excited about the Farmers’ Market … I haven’t been in ages!

Next week, rain and showers are in the forecast Tuesday through Saturday.

Have a wonderful weekend!
